The End of The Line

The world’s first major documentary about the devastating effect of overfishing premiered at Sundance Film Festival

venue: The Gallery, The Wyeside Arts Centre, Builth Wells

synopsis: Imagine an ocean without fish. Imagine your meals without seafood. Imagine the global consequences. This is the future if we do not stop, think and act.
The End of the Line, the first major feature documentary film revealing the impact of overfishing on our oceans, had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in the World Cinema Documentary Competition. Sundance took place in Park City, Utah, January 15-25, 2009.

In the film we see firsthand the effects of our global love affair with fish as food.

It examines the imminent extinction of bluefin tuna, brought on by increasing western demand for sushi; the impact on marine life resulting in huge overpopulation of jellyfish; and the profound implications of a future world with no fish that would bring certain mass starvation.

An ”Introduction to Permaculture” weekend

Learn how to transform cities, homes and communities using the power of natural design

Using the positive holistic design science of Permaculture we can design cities,  communities, homes and gardens to integrate harmoniously with nature. Learning by observation to solve problems in a creative and genuinely sustainable way. This internationally recognised syllabus focuses on solutions and positive, pro-active strategies for all environments.

The weekend introductory course will show us how we can work with nature and learn from it. Through observation we can build an understanding of how plants and animals support each other and build soil fertility. We will discover how it is possible to grow all we need without digging and how to create self sustaining forest gardens and edible landscapes which look after themselves, provide abundant food and are a haven for wildlife.

Venue: a garden in Llandrindod

Date: 12th-13th September,2009.

Tutors: Steve Jones and Abi Price of  Sector39

Cost: £25 (bursaries may be available)
