Are you interested in cutting your energy bills and reducing your carbon footprint, but don't know where to start? This summer, help is at hand with our new project.
Thanks to funding from Environment Wales' Climate Change Next Steps Fund, the Llandrindod transition group will be working with Household Energy Services (HES) of Bishop's Castle to conduct a number of detailed household carbon footprint surveys.
A household energy survey will tell you, in a 20-page report written specially for your circumstances, all the things you could do to reduce your carbon footprint. The report will tell you what changes you and your family could make, what costs would be involved, what savings you could make, and what impact each change would have on your overall carbon footprint.
HES, working with volunteer surveyors from Transition groups in various towns in Mid Wales and the Borders, have already completed household energy surveys in 1,450 homes. Households on average make a 29% reduction in their carbon footprint as a result of following survey recommendations, with some able to save over 80%.
Take part as a volunteer surveyor
Your help is needed! We need a few more people to support this project by offering a few hours between now and September to act as volunteer surveyors.
You do not need any technical skills to help with the survey! As a volunteer surveyor you would help households complete the survey and form the link between HES, the Llandrindod transition group, and the household doing the survey.
As part of the process, you would be helped to complete the survey and receive a report for your own household. If you would like to help with this valuable work please contact Nick Talbott.
Take part as a pilot household
We are looking for up to thirty households in and around Llandrindod to take part in our pilot survey project.
As a participating household, you will complete a detailed survey of your household's energy use with the help of one of our volunteer surveyors. This usually takes around an hour.
The completed survey will be analysed by HES, who will produce a detailed report, typically of around 20 pages, showing what aspects of your life contribute to your household's carbon footprint. They will also make detailed recommendations for changes you could make. Not all changes cost money, but where you would need to spend to make changes the report will provide a guide to costs and benefits.
Please contact Nick Talbott if you would like your household to be included in our survey.
